The Experience

Sometimes, words are not enough.

There are moments when emotions feel too complex to explain. Stress settles into the body, thoughts become tangled, and even the simplest questions, "How are you?" can feel impossible to answer.

Art offers another language.

Long before therapy was defined by conversation, people painted, sculpted, and created as a way to make sense of themselves and the world around them. Creativity has always been a bridge between what we feel and what we struggle to express.

Making an Art of Life is an invitation to slow down, step away from the noise of everyday life, and reconnect with yourself through colour, imagination, and mindful creation.

Whether you arrive feeling curious, overwhelmed, joyful, uncertain, or simply seeking a moment to breathe, this workshop offers a safe space to explore whatever unfolds.

Why Art Therapy?

"Since ancient times, art has served as a means to repair and renew the self, and the world's wisdom traditions have affirmed imagery as a remedy for what ails body and mind."
— Cathy A. Malchiodi

Art therapy is not about creating beautiful artwork.

It is about creating space. A space where emotions become visible, where thoughts take shape without needing perfect words, and where the creative process gently guides us towards greater awareness, acceptance, and healing.

Every colour chosen, every mark made, and every image that emerges tells a story, often one we didn't know we were carrying.

About the Workshop

Who is this for?

This is not an art class.

This is not an art class.

This intimate workshop has been thoughtfully designed for anyone seeking deeper self-awareness through creative expression.

Through a series of guided art-based experiences, participants will explore themes of identity, emotions, resilience, and inner wisdom in a calm, supportive environment.

This is not an art class.

This is not an art class.

This is not an art class.

There is no pressure to perform, no expectation to create something "good," and no artistic background required.

Instead, participants are encouraged to approach the creative process with openness and curiosity, allowing the artwork to become a mirror for reflection rather than a measure of talent.

What to Bring

This is not an art class.

What to Bring

Simply bring: Yourself, comfortable clothing and an open mind.

All art materials are included in the registration fee and will be provided. You are, however, free to carry personal supplies too.

No artistic experience is necessary.

If you can hold a paintbrush, pencil, or pastel, you're already qualified.

What You'll Experience

The workshop combines creative exploration with guided reflection to create an experience that is both grounding and deeply personal.

Together, we will explore:

Creative Expression

Using colours, shapes, textures, and imagery as tools for emotional exploration.

Guided Reflection

Gentle prompts designed to help uncover thoughts, feelings, and personal narratives.

Mindful Presence

Simple practices that encourage slowing down and becoming more present with yourself.

Shared Connection

An opportunity to witness and learn from others within a safe, respectful, and confidential group setting. Sharing is always optional.

Meet the Facilitator

Sonia Bhandari

Sonia is an Art Therapist who believes creativity has the power to nurture healing, resilience, and self-discovery.

Her approach is warm, compassionate, and deeply rooted in the understanding that every individual possesses an innate creative capacity. By combining therapeutic principles with artistic exploration, she creates spaces where participants feel seen, heard, and free to express themselves authentically.

What Makes This Experience Different?

Unlike traditional art workshops, Making an Art of Life places the emphasis on the creative journey rather than the finished piece.

Here, there are no right answers, no comparisons, and no expectations of perfection. Instead, you'll experience:

  • Small group size for deeper connection
  • A professionally facilitated therapeutic space
  • Creative exercises rooted in reflection
  • A gentle, non-judgemental environment
  • Time to pause, create, and simply be

With only 15 participants, the workshop has been intentionally designed to remain intimate, allowing each individual the space and support they need.

What You'll Take Home

While every participant's experience is unique, many leave with:

  • Greater emotional clarity
  • New ways of expressing difficult emotions
  • Practical creative tools for everyday wellbeing
  • Increased self-awareness
  • A deeper sense of calm and presence
  • Artwork that becomes a personal reminder of their journey

The true takeaway, however, is often something less tangible, a renewed connection with yourself.
