On 22 December 2024, our team, in collaboration with Shades of Happiness, organised a winter outreach programme for children in Ashok Vihar, Delhi. Designed as a community-based engagement initiative, the programme used creative activities to foster joy, confidence, and emotional connection among children from underserved communities.
The morning centred on a hands-on arts-and-crafts workshop, where children created festive paper decorations, including Santa figures and stars. Through drawing, cutting, and colouring, participants experienced the satisfaction of completing creative tasks – building focus, self-expression, and a sense of achievement. The shared activity also encouraged social interaction, collaboration, and trust between children and facilitators.
To mark the season of giving, each child received a food goodie bag, reinforcing care and inclusion beyond the activity itself. The gesture was simple yet meaningful, particularly during the winter months when access to resources can be limited.
This outreach demonstrated how low-cost, high-impact interventions can create safe, joyful spaces for children while strengthening community bonds. Such programmes support emotional well-being, reduce isolation, and create positive childhood memories – key protective factors for mental health.
Funding support enables the continuation and expansion of these initiatives, allowing us to reach more children, deepen partnerships with grassroots organisations, and create regular spaces for creativity, care, and connection.
